Arm Lift Procedure at South Coast Plastic Surgery

Do you have lots of excess skin hanging from your arms as a result of age or significant weight loss? Want to be able to wear a sleeveless dress or top? Then it’s time to discover the arm lift procedure at South Coast Plastic Surgery in Ladera, CA!

What is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin from the arms, with more of a focus on removing drooping skin from the upper arm region. In addition to removing excess skin, the arm lift involves contouring the remaining skin around the upper arms, creating a more natural shape that balances your body. Arm lifts are not covered by insurance, even though the skin can be irritated and cause infections and hygiene issues.

How Does It Work?

The arm lift is performed under general anesthesia. Incisions are made along the inner arm; in some cases, the incision may be made from the armpit to the elbow. These incisions allow your plastic surgeon to remove the optimal amount of arm skin while hiding surgical incisions as much as possible. The skin that’s left over is repositioned over the arm muscles for a more natural and contoured appearance. The incisions are closed at the end of the arm lift procedure. The procedure can be combined with skin tightening procedures like Renuvion(R) or liposuction. Drains are typically not used with this procedure by the plastic surgeons at South Coast Plastic Surgery.

Am I a Good Candidate For an Arm Lift?

An arm lift is an excellent choice for patients who have poor skin laxity as a result of significant weight loss or just getting older. Some patients need arm lift surgery because their excess skin leads to frequent rashes and infections. The best candidates are healthy nonsmoking individuals with realistic expectations for their procedure.

What is the Recovery Like?*

Patients typically take about one week off from an arm lift (or two, if the patient has a more manual job). If you have small children, it’s recommended you arrange for childcare, as you’ll be prevented from lifting anything over five pounds for at least two weeks. Patients can start to resume normal activities after about three to four weeks, but they may be prohibited from strenuous exercise until the sixth week of recovery. However, we encourage gentle walking as soon as you’re ready.

Your plastic surgeon will be in constant contact with you in order to monitor your progress and ensure that your recovery is going smoothly.
