Body Lifts at South Coast Plastic Surgery

Do you have lots of excess skin from losing a significant amount of weight? Lost all the weight, but can’t get rid of the skin? Then it’s time to discover the body lift at South Coast Plastic Surgery in Ladera, CA!

What is a Body Lift?

A body lift is a surgical procedure that helps correct issues associated with excess sagging skin from major weight loss or from aging. A body lift can be performed on the front and back of the body to help achieve the patient’s aesthetic goals. Patients who undergo a body lift often feel more self-confidence, as their skin now matches their new body shape. Body lifts are not covered by a patient’s health insurance as they consider the procedure “cosmetic.”

How Does It Work?

The body lift is performed under general anesthesia. A front body lift usually involves a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty that gets rid of excess skin and fat at the abdomen. It usually combined with a mons lift to elevate the pubic area.

A posterior body lift gets rid of excess skin and fat in the back. It also leads to a lift of the buttock area and can be combined with fat grafting to the buttocks or gluteal implants. Our surgeons focus on safety and do not inject any fat into the gluteal muscles.

The placement of the incisions allows your plastic surgeon to remove excess skin and reposition it to help show off the body you’ve worked hard to build. The incisions are closed at the end of the procedure. Sometimes drains are used to reduce the risk of fluid collections known as seromas.

Am I a Good Candidate For a Body Lift?

You’re a good candidate for a body lift if you have excess skin along your thighs, upper arms, stomach, and buttocks. Many candidates often need the body lift because they’re getting skin infections as a result of their excess skin. The best candidates are healthy nonsmoking individuals with realistic expectations for their procedure.

Good nutrition before and after surgery cannot be emphasized enough. The plastic surgeons at South Coast Plastic Surgery focus on patient safety and clinical excellence. Your body will need fuel to heal the incisions and to recover from surgery. Establishing good nutrition before and after your surgery with high protein content is critical to a successful outcome. Our surgeons will work with your massive weight loss team or dieticians to customize a diet plan for before and after surgery.

If you have had massive weight loss surgery, you should be at your goal weight and have a stable weight for at least 6 months though 1 year of stable weight is even better. Our surgeons can coordinate your care with your bariatric surgeons, so even if you are not ready for surgery but want to discuss your options, the plastic surgeons at South Coast Plastic Surgery are here to help!

Consultations Are Available Now

Take the first step. Get your questions answered and find out which treatment option is best for you by meeting with one of our knowledgeable medical staff at South Coast Plastic Surgery for an in-person consultation.

What Results Will I See?*

Initial results can be seen right away, especially if patients have had to deal with a large amount of excess skin. Results include tighter and more contoured skin that shows off your new profile. The procedure can be combined with skin tightening technology like Renuvion(R).

Final results will be seen once the body has healed from surgery.

What is the Recovery Like?*

Since the body lift involves major surgery, most patients take about one to two weeks off from work to recover. Patients can start to resume normal activities after about two weeks, but they may be prohibited from strenuous exercise until the first month, as long as you are healing well. Your plastic surgeon will be in constant contact with you in order to monitor your progress and ensure that your recovery is going smoothly. Your surgeons want you up and walking the day of surgery to keep the circulation in your legs going, to prevent the likelihood of a clot in your legs that could go to your heart or lungs. The plastic surgeons at South Coast Plastic Surgery use long-lasting numbing medicine and customized pain regimen to keep you as comfortable as possible.
