Breast Reduction Surgery at South Coast Plastic Surgery

Are you tired of dealing with neck, back, and shoulder pain as a result of breasts that are too large? Then it’s time to discover breast reduction surgery at South Coast Plastic Surgery in Ladera, CA!

What is a Breast Reduction?

A breast reduction is a surgical procedure designed to reduce the size and weight of large breasts, particularly those that cause a patient significant back, neck, and shoulder pain. The main goal of breast reduction is to help patients feel more comfortable in their skin again, as well as help them enjoy life without chronic pain. Patients who have undergone breast reduction report feeling wildly satisfied with the procedure, as many feel an instant improvement in their back and shoulder pain as soon as they wake up from the surgery. Breast reduction patients often tell us, “I wish I had done this earlier!”

How Does It Work?

The main goal of breast reduction is to help reduce the size of large breasts, as well as adjust the nipples to fit the new breast shape and size. The procedure is typically done under general anesthesia; incisions are placed around the breasts to help the South Coast Plastic Surgery doctors access the breast tissue. Fat, tissue, and excess skin are removed, and what’s left behind is shaped into a smaller and perkier-looking breast. The nipples may be repositioned to be in proportion to the new breasts. The goal is to minimize the scars and create a beautiful breast.

Am I a Good Candidate For a Breast Reduction?

Good candidates for a breast reduction are those patients who have experienced chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain as a result of having too-large breasts. Typical candidates also have a hard time enjoying normal activities, like exercising and even sleeping. Many candidates also get chronic rashes from their breasts.

All candidates need to be healthy nonsmoking individuals who have realistic expectations for their breast reduction procedure.

What Results Will I See?*

Many patients remark that they feel results right away; some even say that they wake up from surgery feeling an immediate improvement in their neck, back, and shoulder pain. You’ll be able to see results right away, as your breasts will appear smaller.

Final results are usually visible about eight to twelve weeks after surgery when most post-op swelling and bruising have dissipated.

What is the Recovery Like?*

Recovery usually takes about a month; the first week can be the most uncomfortable, so we suggest patients take this time off from work. You’ll need to wear compression bras to help with post-op swelling and bruising, so it’s worth investing in a few of these garments. Most patients are able to return to work after a week (sometimes even sooner) and resume their normal exercise routines after about three to four weeks.

Dr. Song & Ali will work closely with you to ensure that your breast reduction recovery process is as smooth and successful as possible.
