Facelift Procedure at South Coast Plastic Surgery
Tired of sagging facial skin and wrinkles that make you look older than you feel? Then it’s time to discover the facelift procedure at South Coast Plastic Surgery in Ladera, CA!
What is Facelift Surgery?
Facelift surgery is a cosmetic procedure designed to lift and tone sagging facial skin, as well as reposition muscles to a more youthful position. The plastic surgeons at South Coast Plastic Surgery don’t PULL and TIGHTEN the skin, they LIFT and RESTORE the skin and facial muscles to where they should be.
The end goal of the facelift is to create a natural, youthful look, not an operated or windswept appearance to the face. The goal is to help correct some of the more significant signs of aging. This procedure is an excellent option for patients who have moderate to severe signs of aging and won’t see great results with non-surgical solutions. Many of our patients have tried nonsurgical procedures like skin tightening or thread lifts and now want a more long-lasting, natural look.
How Does It Work?
Facelift surgery is typically performed under general anesthesia right at South Coast Plastic Surgery. The procedure begins with incisions placed following the shadows and contours of the ears and underneath the chin; these incisions are kept in the natural curves and creases of the ears, which helps reduce the signs of post-surgical scarring. Your plastic surgeon will use these incisions to access the “SMAS” or layer of the face with the muscle and lift them into a more youthful position. Our surgeons don’t pull, they lift so you can have a natural result.
After this stage, your plastic surgeon will usually trim excess skin to help redrape the sagging skin over the newly lifted face.
Am I a Good Candidate For a Facelift?
You’re a good candidate for a facelift if you have moderate to severe facial sagging, especially along the jawline and mid-facial region (cheeks). Many candidates we see also have deep wrinkles and folds that won’t respond to creams or non-surgical solutions and want a better jawline. All candidates need to be healthy nonsmoking individuals who have realistic expectations for this procedure.
To improve the quality and texture of the skin, the plastic surgeons at South Coast Plastic Surgery will come up with a customized treatment regimen for skincare including HydraFacials and medical grade skin products. They may also recommend energy-based treatments like Halo and BBL.

What Results Will I See?*
Most patients begin to see their results within a month of their facelift surgery when most swelling and bruising have subsided. Patients can expect to see smoother and younger-looking skin, with fewer fine lines and wrinkles. Additional results include a more contoured and slimmer facial profile.
Minor swelling may be present for up to six months after the facelift procedure.
What is the Recovery Like?*
Recovery usually takes about a month; the first week can be the most uncomfortable, so we suggest patients take this time off from work. You’ll be spending a lot of your time relaxing and healing, so we recommend arranging support to be at home during the first few days after your procedure. We can also arrange for a private duty nurse to help in your recovery. During your second week of recovery, we recommend that patients start to go for gentle walks.
Most patients are able to return to work after a week and resume their normal exercise routines after about four to six weeks.
