Chemical Peels for More Radiant Skin

What is a Chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is a non-surgical treatment that uses a special formulation of acids to exfoliate the skin’s damaged layers to reveal younger and more rejuvenated skin hiding underneath. Chemical peels can be customized to each person’s particular needs; stronger chemical peels are ideal for patients who want to erase years of damage and aging from their complexion. Chemical peels remain one of the most ideal non-surgical skin treatments for fast and noticeable results.

At South Coast Plastic Surgery, our highly- trained Providers will recommend the appropriate peel for your skin type and goals leading to the best possible results specially designed for you.

How Does a Chemical Peel Work?

A chemical peel uses a unique blend of “chemical agents” such as alpha hydroxy acids (like glycolic acid) or beta hydroxy acids (like salicylic acid) to effectively remove the top layer of the dermis, where sun and aging damages are most obvious. Once this top layer is removed, the younger and smoother skin underneath can come to the surface, leaving patients looking younger, more rejuvenated, and ready to take on the day. Having our highly trained professionals perform them, ensures the highest level of safety and best outcome.

Am I a Good Candidate For a Chemical Peel?

A good candidate for a chemical peel is a person who wants to improve moderate signs of hyperpigmentation; including sun damage, age spots, and melasma. Chemical peels are also great for people who want to improve acne, fine line & wrinkles, and texture reduction, thus creating smoother, better-looking skin.

At South Coast Plastic Surgery, we’ll help you pick the right chemical peel for you based on your individual needs.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

Each chemical peel treatment varies depending on the one that’s right for you; however, most patients can expect their chemical peel to take around 30 minutes.

What Results Will I See?*

There are two phases of results. Some results are immediate as the top layer of older, dead skin is removed. The skin then heals from the bottom up leading to longer-lasting results with skin looking better and better every day. However, around week 4, patients can expect to see the full effect of the peel including, glowing and rejuvenated skin with fewer fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, scarring, and more.

Patients may need a series of chemical peels to achieve optimal results or combination therapy with laser treatments like Halo and BBL. Monthly facials are also a great way to maintain your results.

Is There Any Downtime?

Depending on the depth of the peel, you may experience temporary redness, dryness, and flaking/peeling of the skin. It takes approximately 48 hours for the skin to start peeling after the peel has been applied. Peeling can last anywhere from 3-10 days depending on the depth of the peel. It is important to avoid strenuous exercise, sun exposure, and exfoliating products while your skin is healing. Your skincare provider will recommend products to nourish and protect your skin to achieve optimal results.
