What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved, non-surgical body contouring treatment that uses the power of freezing energy to target and reduce stubborn fat cells. CoolSculpting is a powerful and popular treatment option, as it can deliver significant inch loss on places like the abdomen, waistline, thighs, upper arms, and more. It can also be used on the male chest to help contour the pecs.

CoolSculpting can even be used on smaller, hard-to-target areas like underneath the chin and the armpits; the secret is in the miniature applicator (appropriately dubbed the CoolSculpting Mini).

How Does CoolSculpting Work?

CoolSculpting works by emitting freezing energy to the fat cells clustered underneath the subdermal tissue. This energy crystallizes and eventually damages the fat cells, which gives the body the cue it needs to remove the cells from the treated areas. There are no incisions or anesthesia needed for CoolSculpting, so you can get back to your day faster.

Am I a Good Candidate for CoolSculpting?

You’re a good candidate for CoolSculpting if you have stubborn pockets of fat that won’t respond to your diet and exercise habits. Patients should be within 15 to 20 pounds of their ideal weight; CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss procedure. Candidates should also have moderate to excellent skin laxity to support their results.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?

A typical treatment takes less than an hour to perform, during which time you’re free to relax, read, or even take a nap. If you’re opting for CoolSculpting Mini, the time is a bit shorter (usually around the 30-minute mark, due to the smaller treatment site). You can use this time to have a Hydrafacial or chemical peel and fully relax.

What Results Will I See?*

Ideal results usually take about 6 weeks after your last CoolSculpting session to materialize (most folks need about 1-3 treatments). Many patients remark that they experience significant inch loss and that their clothes fit a lot better than before. Some people see a noticeable reduction in various pockets of fat, leaving behind a more contoured profile. The doctors at South Coast Plastic Surgery have extensive experience with CoolSculpting.

CoolSculpting can be combined with CoolTone, which stimulates the muscles and can lead to better ab definition and contour. Ask our staff if you would be a candidate for CoolSculpting and CoolTone.

There’s no downtime associated with CoolSculpting, so you can get right back to your normal routine. However, you may experience some side effects for a week or two after your procedure, including mild swelling, soreness, and temporary numbing at the treatment site. Some patients will report itching at the site of treatment.
