Are you bothered by the appearance of acne scarring, wrinkles, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation? Minimize your complexion woes with microneedling at South Coast Plastic Surgery in Ladera, CA!
What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a non-surgical procedure that uses a special device to quickly create microchannels within the skin, thus promoting the body’s collagen and elastin production. The primary goal of microneedling is to encourage faster cellular turnover so the skin can become more rejuvenated, renewed, and ready to be shown off. Microneedling is highly effective at minimizing acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and more.
Microneedling can also help deliver nutrients to the deeper layers of the skin. It can be combined with “PRP” or “Platelet Rich Plasma” treatments to help the skin glow!
How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling is performed with a small handheld device that contains several tiny needle tips. When the device is moved over the targeted skin area, the needle tips quickly puncture the dermis, creating microscopic channels that immediately trigger collagen and elastin for cellular turnover. Some microneedling devices combine this treatment with radiofrequency energy, which helps to tighten and tone skin. A topical numbing cream is applied before the treatment for your comfort.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microneedling?
You’re a good candidate for microneedling if you have some complexion issues, like hyperpigmentation, aging symptoms, sun damage, uneven skin tone, and more. Microneedling doesn’t use any chemicals or other substances, so it can be a good treatment for pregnant and breastfeeding women.

How Long Does a Typical Treatment Take?
A typical microneedling treatment takes about 30 minutes to perform. A numbing cream or ice can be applied to the treatment area to help patients feel more comfortable during their microneedling session. It can also be combined with “PRP” or “Platelet Rich Plasma” treatment.
What Results Will I See?*
You’ll start to notice results about three to six weeks after your microneedling treatment. The skin may look more rejuvenated, smoother, and younger. With enough treatments, patients can expect to see reduced acne scarring, hyperpigmentation and sun damage, as well as tighter skin. Results can be maintained with a good skin care regimen, medical-grade skin products available at our office, and regular Hydrafacials.
Is There Any Downtime?
There’s no downtime associated with microneedling treatments, but patients may experience extra skin sensitivity right after their procedure. Some side effects may include temporary bleeding while the treatment is being performed, redness, and slight swelling. It’s important to wear sunscreen after your microneedling treatment, as your skin will be sensitive to the sun’s UV rays.
