Otoplasty at South Coast Plastic Surgery

Do you or your child have large, misshapen, or prominent ears? Do you feel that your ears are too visible? Then you might be a good candidate for Otoplasty at South Coast Plastic Surgery in Ladera, CA!

What is Otoplasty?

Otoplasty is a surgical procedure designed to correct misshapen or prominent ears that may not be proportional to a person’s facial appearance. Otoplasty – also known as ear pinning – is a quick and popular surgery that can be life-changing for people (especially children) with larger ears. Otoplasty can be performed right at South Coast Plastic Surgery, with minimal recovery time and excellent patient results.

How Does It Work?

Otoplasty is a relatively uncomplicated surgery, as it involves your plastic surgeon making a small, hidden incision behind the ears in order to reshape the cartilage. This procedure is typically performed under general anesthesia, though it can be done under local anesthesia and takes about an hour.

Am I a Good Candidate For Otoplasty?

You’re a good candidate for otoplasty if you have large or prominent ears that make you feel self-conscious about your appearance. While otoplasty can be performed on adults, it can be performed in teenagers and young adults, as the surgery can quickly address large or misshapen ears before someone becomes self-conscious about them. All candidates need to be healthy nonsmoking individuals who have realistic expectations for this procedure.

Consultations Are Available Now

Take the first step. Get your questions answered and find out which treatment option is best for you by meeting with one of our knowledgeable medical staff at South Coast Plastic Surgery for an in-person consultation.

What Results Will I See?*

Results are usually visible about immediately but it takes time for the incisions to heal. It is important to avoid contact sports until cleared by your doctor. Results can include smaller and more balanced ears that are perfectly proportioned to your face shape.

What is the Recovery Like?*

Recovery takes between 2 weeks and a month. You’ll be required to stay out of the pool for a few weeks. You may experience some numbness and itching for the first month after your surgery, but this is normal. We recommend that children get this surgery at the beginning of summer or around vacations, as this provides them with enough recovery time before going back to school.
